Voting peaceful in Ch’nagar, Kollegal

The Urban Local Body election conducted to 31 wards in Chamarajanagar and 29 wards in Kollegal were overall peaceful on Friday. Chamarajanagar city municipal council recorded 72.03% voting and Kollegal town municipal council 73.71 % voting. In all, 233 candidates contested (132 in Chamarajanagar and 101 in Kollegal) from both the councils.

Except for a minor scuffle between the supporters of SDPI and Independent candidates at Ward 4, at Galipura, in Chamarajanagar, no untoward incident was reported. The voting was smooth as no technical glitches were reported in Electronic Voting Machines.

Arguments were reported at wards in Bheemanagar, GP Mallappuram, Santhe Beedhi, Manjunathanagar and Linganapura in Kollegal. But, police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Elections were conducted to 31 wards under Chamarajanagar CMC and 29 wards in Kollegal TMC. While, Gangamma of Bahujan Samaj Party has been unanimously elected from Ward 6, election was not held for Ward 9, as the BSP candidate died in a road mishap recently, in Kollegal TMC.
