Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday said that he himself would manage the higher education portfolio.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with representatives of various private colleges, Kumaraswamy said that he would have the portfolio as he is the chief minister. Currently, G T Devegowda, the JD(S) MLA from Chamundeshwari constituency, has been given the portfolio. The fact that Devegowda is only a class eight pass and has been made minister for higher education, had drawn a lot of flak from the experts.
Devegowda himself had rejected the portfolio citing that he wanted a portfolio that would let him mingle with people. Kumaraswamy presently handles 11 other portfolios including Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, Finance, Energy, Infrastructure Development, Textiles and Commerce and Industries, Information and Public Relations and any other department not specifically allocated to any minister.
