Yeddyurappa accuses HDK of ‘abetting’ farmers’ suicide

Last Updated 28 September 2018, 08:22 IST

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday criticised Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy for indulging in “temple run” at a time when there was a spate of suicides by farmers in the state.

In a press statement, Yeddyurappa charged that Kumaraswamy’s failure to mitigate the problems of farmers had led to an increase in they committing suicides.

Yeddyurappa said that more than 50 farmers had committed suicide after Kumaraswamy took over as chief minister. On Saturday, a farmer Nandish and three of his family members committed suicide in Pandavapur taluk in Mandya district. “Why should not you be charged of abetting the suicides? Does not your negligence amount to abetment,” Yeddyurappa asked Kumaraswamy. The BJP leader stated that the spate of suicide by farmers was proof that the crop loan waiver scheme announced by the government was a “farce”. He also stated that Kumaraswamy was blaming the BJP of trying to destabilise the coalition government only to cover-up his failures.

“Survival of your government is not the need of the hour, what is needed is that you respond and resolve the problems faced by the people and farmers. Give a pause to your political machinations and show concern for the poor,” Yeddyurappa stated.
