Tug-of-war competition in October

Under the aegis of D One Event Management, ‘Ker Bali Namme’, a tug-of-war competition will be conducted at General Thimayya Stadium in Napoklu in October, said D One Manager A Gagan Ganapathi.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, he said that the aim of the event is to boost up the involvement of Kodava people in other sports.

There are 856 Kodava families in the district. However, only 400 families take part in hockey and cricket tournaments. The rest stay away from the events, due to various reasons.

By organising a tug-of-war event, the involvement of other families could be ensured. The event will be held separately for men and women, said Ganapathi.

He further said that more than one member from a family can take part in the competition.

Every team must comprise of eight players. The maximum strength of a team is 11 members, including two additional players, one coach and a manager. Winning teams would take home a trophy and cash prize. Participating teams will be presented with mementoes. The tournament will be held in adherence to the international standards.
