A woman was saved from being auctioned for the third time in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district.

According to reports, the woman, who hailed from neighbouring Uttarakhand, had been ‘bought’ by a man, a resident of Dasipur village, a few days ago for Rs 14, 000 in Moradabad district.

The buyer, identified as Kishore Singh, decided to ‘auction’ the woman again on Friday. Police sources said Singh had announced the ‘auction’ victim in the village and had asked prospective buyers to come to his house to take part in the bidding process. The bid did not go beyond Rs 12,000, the source added.

The victim was to be handed over to the buyer the next day.

The source said the woman had made an attempt to flee after coming to know that she was being auctioned, but was caught and thrashed.

Others escape

Some locals informed police and a team raided Singh’s house just after the ‘auction’ process ended. Two persons were arrested while others managed to escape.

The woman has been handed over to Mahila Police. They said she would soon be sent to her family. A case has been registered and efforts are being made to nab the other culprits, police said.
