A 32-year-old woman suffered cuts on her face and neck in a leopard attack in Japthi village of Kundapur taluk in the early hours of Monday.

Prema of Kailkere near Hunsemakki was on her way to deliver milk to the dairy. At around 6 am, the leopard attacked her. The local residents took her to a nearby hospital and later to the district hospital in Udupi. Prema is recovering and out of danger, sources said.

Forest officials rushed to the spot and kept two cages to trap the animal.

Leopards have been sighted at Ajri, Aloor, Hunsemakki, Basroor, Japthi and Shankaranarayana villages of Kundapur taluk. A leopard had attacked a woman named Rukmini Ganiga, 52, of Ajri village on February 17. Four leopards have been trapped in the last three months, two each in Kalavara and Molahalli villages.
