"The Department of State reminds all media organisations that no US official remains in Libya, and our ability to provide assistance to US citizens or other employees of US-based news organisations is severely limited; strongly advises against travel to Libya at this time," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement.
He also appealed to US citizens in Libya to leave the country immediately.
"US has suspended all embassy operations, effective February 25, given ongoing violence and a deteriorating security situation," Toner added.
