Owaisi leads a hectic campaign in Hyderabad

Asaduddin Owaisi, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party president and Hyderabad MP, is campaigning for the victory of his party candidates in eight constituencies in Telangana.

His daily routine starts at 9 am and goes on till the night. He walks through the narrow bylines of the old city and the adjoining areas and greeting men and women in Urdu.

He shakes hands with young men and asks the women whether they have proper water supply. Asaduddin, whose party has friendly relation with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, is also participating in a few TRS meetings.

On Thursday, Asaduddin campaigned in Asifnagar and Malakpet constituencies with a public meeting at a function hall in Malakpet. On the way, old women from both Muslim and Hindu communities blessed him and a few kissed him on the forehead.

Asaduddin also spent time talking to women from DWCRA groups trying to find out their problems. Speaking to a group of journalists at the function hall, Asaduddin said that his party will not join the TRS government but is lending support.

Asad said TRS has in fact delivered on its promises and maintained communal harmony in the old city since coming to power. Asad also makes a point to tell people to vote for the TRS for a better future.

Commenting on the issue of the unfulfilled promise of 12% reservation for the Muslims, Asad said that the ball is in the court of the Narendra Modi government, as the state Assembly has already passed the resolution and sent for the Centre's approval.

In Nirmal, where he shared stage with TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, he spoke about schemes launched by the TRS government for minorities.

He praised the Shadi Mubarak scheme for the marriage of Muslim girls and the higher education scheme, under which about 1,800 Muslim youths are studying abroad with the help from state government.

Reluctant to expand his base beyond the eight segments in Hyderabad, Asad said he will take up the issue at a right time as per party strategy.

Taking potshots at Narendra Modi wherever he goes, Asad said the present Assembly elections in five states will give us guidance about the 2019 Parliament elections.

He also said Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu and Rahul Gandhi in Telangana cannot dictate terms for Telangana.

Asad, calling the grand alliance as East India party saying that Naidu in Amaravati and Rahul in New Delhi can’t dictate terms for Telangana.
