600 kids take part in kidathon

Last Updated 01 October 2018, 19:11 IST

It was kids’ day out on Sunday with over 600 of them below the age of 12, along with their parents enthusiastically taking part in ‘Kidathon’.

The occasion was the launch of Daan Utsav 2018 and World Heart Day. The message each one took with them after the walk was ‘walk for a healthy life’.

The Kidathon was flagged off at Rajatadri - District Administration Complex by Dr Poornima Baliga, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital and it ended at the KMC Greens, where the kids had fun doing the Zumba.

This was followed by a short session on how to wash hands. It was coordinated by Dr Muralidhar Verma of KMC. At the end of the programme, all the kids were given balloons and a small bag to encourage them and participate in the ‘Fistful of Grains’ project of Daan Utsav.

The kids are expected to put a fistful of rice everyday into that packet before they have their meals.

The idea is to inculcate the idea of giving and sharing among kids. All packets are to be returned next Sunday at KMC Food Court.

VSO will coordinate to give the packets to the underprivileged in Udupi.
