A Delhi court on Wednesday sent Karnataka's senior Congress leader and former Minister D K Shivakumar into the custody of theEnforcement Directorate till September 13 in a money laundering case lodged against him.
Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar granted nine days of custodial interrogation of the Karnataka's strongman, though the agency sought 14 days, saying the accused has remained evasive and non-cooperative in four days of questioning at its headquarters here in Delhi.
Arrested a day before, Shivakumar was produced before the court here this afternoon, after taking him from RML Hospital where he spent his night due to medical complications, including varying blood pressure.

Special judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar passed the order after the ED sought 14-day custodial interrogation ofShivakumar, arrested on Tuesday night, claiming that he was evasive and non-cooperative in the probe and there was "phenomenal growth" in his income while he was in an important position.
Following the Special court's order stating D K Shivakumar's ED remand, the Karnataka Congress, in a series of tweets, hit out at the BJP.
According to the tweets put out by the Karnataka Congress, Dinesh Gundu Rao, President of the KPCC saida meeting of topleaders of the Congress party was held at the KPCC office to discuss the current political developments around the cases againstparty leaders P Chidambaram and now D K Shivakumar. They also had a debate about the kind of hate politics that was going on.
Tagging PM Modi's Twitter account, it said that the BJP wasmisusing the IT, ED and CBI as a pretext against its political opponents, saying that no such revenge politics has ever been seen in the history of the country. It added that such incidents have spiked after PM Modi became the Prime Minister.
The Karnataka Congress stated that itcondemns the BJP's ploy, deception and fraud and would hold areferendumto answer it. These incidents put the country's democratic system at risk. There is a need for everyone to work together and Congress will do this. We will convince people of the truth,it added.
In a major setback to DK Shivakumar, a special court in Delhi on Wednesday decided to grant the ED custody of senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar till September 13.
Family members and lawyers will be allowed to meet Shivakumar for 15 minutes every day.
At the end of the arguments, the Special judge Ajay Kumar has reserved the order and will pronounce it in a while.
Additional Solicitor GeneralKM Nataraj stated that money laundering wasan independent offence under PMLA and theproceedings under PMLA are carried out separately.
Shivakumar's counsel argued that the ED should not get a single day's custody of DK Shivakumar.
Shivakumar's counsel Singhvi said that the Congress leader suffered fromlow BP, thyroid and high sugar and must be given propermedication.
He added that he was toldby Shivakumar that henot given food today.
Singhvi contends that the Court must either reject the remand plea or grant Shivakumarbail with condition.
Arguing forprotection to begranted under Article 20 of the Constitution, Singhvi said that theaccused cannot be forced incriminate himself.
Singhvi statedthat the remand application has a completely perverse view of investigation.
He added that merely because the accused didn't confessdoesn't mean he isn't co-operating.
Opposing the ED's plea by saying that DK Shivakumar had appeared for four days of questioning, Shivakumar's counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi has sought bail.
Singhvi said the whole case based upon I-T search on the basis of the June 13, 2016 complaint.The High Court had already stayed it.
The ASG also claimed that DK Shivakumarmisused govt agencies for personal gains and that the ED has shared the information with the CBI.
Stating thatthere is a reason to believe the accused is guilty of money laundering, the EDsaid thatDK Shivakumar gave evasive replies andremained non-cooperative during the investigation.

Delhi: Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar says after coming out from Enforcement Directorate office, "they summoned me for an inquiry & questioned me from 6:30 to 11 pm. They have called me tomorrow as well, I have told them I'll fully cooperate."

Facing summons by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, beleaguered Congress leader DK Shivakumar said Friday he was targeted for being faithful to his party.
"The I-T raid on me was politically-motivated for hosting Gujarat Congress MLAs. As a loyal soldier of Congress and a responsible politician, I did what party asked me to do, for which I am being targeted," Shivakumar said in a tweet.
In a major setback to former minister and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday dismissed his petition seeking quashing of summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case.
Followingthe ruling, the ED issued a notice to Shivakumar, asking him to appear before it on Friday.
Income Tax officials had raided the properties of DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru and New Delhi on August 2, 2017 and had seized unaccounted cash worth over Rs 8.59 cr.
The ED had issued summons to Shivakumar to appear for questioning in connection with the I-T raids.
Cases have been registered under Section 277 and 278 of the Income Tax Act of 1961 and Sections 120(B), 193 and 199 of the IPC against DK Shivakumar, Sachin Narayana, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Anjaneya Hanumanthaiah and Rajendra.

High Court rejects interim relief for D K Shivakumar. He had approached the court seeking directions to prevent his arrest and requesting to appear on another date to appear before the Enforcement Directorate.The petition was filed by Shivakumar's lawyers' on Friday following ED summons.

Former MLA DK Shivakumar in a press meet in Bengaluru said, "I would like to remind Yediyurappa and other BJP legislators that all opposition MLAs were provided adequate funds when I was the Water Resources minister."
"We took everyone to confidence when we were in power. I would request B S Yediyurappa to reverse his order and restore the project sanctioned.I request him to withdraw his order. Or else I will have to fight it politically. I will stage a dharna in front of Gandhi statue in Vidhana Soudha till the order is withdrawn. Congratulating the Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa, DK Shivakumar said, "I would like to CM congratulate B S Yediyurappa, in the floor of the Assembly said that he wouldn't pursue vindictive politics. But, he has sown the seed of vindictive politics already."
He pointed out, "All decisions of the coalition government are being cancelled.For instance, my dream was to have a medical college in Kanakapura. the Finance Department has sanctioned it and the plan was being finalised. Cabinet had cleared it and we were supposed to do 'Bhoomi Pooja'.Unfortunately, Yediyurappa during his 'single-member cabinetcancelled the medical college and shifted it to Chikkaballapur.Everything was sanctioned for the college. It is unfortunate."
The senior Congress leader said he is not bothered about who will support him in Congress. "I am least bothered about. I have done my job," he said.
"I am in trouble because of the work I did for the party.I have handled various by-elections and Rajya Sabha elections, not just Ahmed Patel's election in Gujrat.
I don't consider that party put me in trouble," he said.
"I will honour the summons and travel to Delhi. I will make all attempts to protect myself," DK Shivakumar said.
