In a bid to improve facilities for air travellers who to take Airport Metro Express to reach Delhi airport, a foot overbridge  is likely to come up at New Delhi railway station which would connect all the platforms with the entrance and exit of New Delhi station of Airport Metro.

“The blueprint of constructing the foot overbridge has been prepared. Being a high value proposal, it has been sent to the Railway Board for clearance,” a senior railway official told Deccan Herald. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had approached the railways with the proposal, said the railway officials.

“The bridge will give air travellers of Airport Metro a direct access to New Delhi station. They can reach the desired platform of the railway station directly to catch train ,” the official said.
Once the bridge becomes operational, it will save air travellers the trouble to walk through the busy arrival-departure area outside the station on Ajmeri Gate side.

The nearest foot overbridge of the railway station is around 100 metres away from the entrance and exit point of the Airport Metro.

According to officials of Reliance Infrastructure, the concessionaire of Airport Metro Express, several international flyers from neighbouring states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh take their flight from the Capital and reach the city through trains.

The increase in the number of facilities for air travellers at its New Delhi station would also boost the ridership on the Airport Metro, which currently stands at around 20,000 per day, the officials said.

The Airport Metro has recently started cloakroom service for passengers. The check-in facility for the international flyers at the station was also launched last month.
