Power distribution company BSES has started a safety initiative ‘Tool Box Talk’ to keep linesmen who work with live wires and transformers safe.

The BSES has also conducted over 1,000 internal safety audits and about 120 unsafe conditions have been removed, it said.

Recently, a 50-year-old woman allegedly died of an asthma attack due to smoke caused by a small fire and a BSES employee sustained injuries to his face while he was shifting the family’s electricity meter from inside the house to an area outside their premises in east Delhi.

Under ‘Tool Box Talk’ initiative, linesmen will undertake safety planning before they leave for the field. “In every shift they will plan how to keep them and their consumers safe,” the BSES said in a statement.

The two discoms, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), are conducting internal or third party audit of their equipment and installations to ensure that they are safe and do not pose any safety hazard.

“Moreover, all the past accidents are being investigated and reports along with suggestions are being shared with the employees to prevent their reoccurrence,” it added.
