IT major HCL Technologies on Tuesday said it will hire over 16,000 freshers in next one year.

“We are hiring entry level freshers predominantly with Mode 2 skill sets overseas… But the scaling up would happen only in the next financial year. We intent to hire 10% of the current worforce as freshers,” Apparao V V, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at HCL Technologies told DH.

During the current financial year, the Noida-based tech company has hired 24,241 new employees, that includes 3,500 freshers. The company plans to hire further 3,500 freshers in October to March of FY 2019, and over 12,500 employees during the first half of next financial year.

Earlier, this month, TCS announced plans to hire 28,000 freshers in next one year.

As of September 30, 2018, the company employed 1,27,875 people on its payrolls, with an attrition rate of 17.1%.

In the top two performers segments, the company has seen an attrition rate of 11.3%, according to Apparao. “That is the segment we don’t want to lose. So, generally when we give our increments, we give higher increments to top performers,” he said.

The company has given 10-12% increment to its top performers, while 3-4% to its bottom performers. The average increments in the company for the current financial year is around 6-7% globally, while it is 2-3% for the employees deployed for on-shore operations.

HCL has reskilled 39,000 employees in the quarter ended September 30, with 27,000 of them on the digital front.
