The popular OnePlus 6T smartphone, released late in October in India just got a facelift, and a striking one at that. OnePlus, the Chinese maker of the phone, has tied up with Formula One team McLaren and calls its new offering the ‘OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition’.

A standout feature of the phone is the Papaya Orange streak running in the form of a U on the back cover, which identifies it with McLaren’s Formula One racing colours.

The McLaren Edition had already been launched in North America and Western Europe. The India launch was in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. It offers 10 GB RAM and 256 GB storage and is priced at Rs 50,999. The top variant at present is the 8 GB/256GB model, priced just shy of Rs 46,000.
There seems to be keen anticipation for the McLaren Edition. In Bengaluru, pre-bookings for the new edition started at 6.30 pm on Tuesday evening, with a charge of Rs 2,000 for booking. The Rs 2000 is refundable if the customer is not interested in buying it when sales begin on December 15. Till Wednesday evening, the store had 25 bookings. Two devices per customer is the limit for pre-booking.

The McLaren Edition features filming in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The standard colours available are Mirror Black, Midnight Black and Thunder Purple, but the McLaren Edition has a smooth and glossy carbon fibre back on the back cover, with the Papaya Orange streak, which fades into black as it reaches the top of the phone.

The phone comes in a special box that has carbon fibre wrapped on the lid of the box. This is the same material that was used in the McLaren MCL 33 Formula 1 car. More than six F1 cars-worth of carbon fibre was used in the production of these boxes, a media release said.

The 6T has the Warp Charge 30 technology, with a full day of power from the 3700 mAH lithium-polymer battery needing only 20 minutes of charging. The Warp Charge 30 power unit includes a Papaya Orange braided cord cable.

The 6T is powered by the Snapdragon 845 processor with a 6.41 inch Full HD AMOLED screen. Charging and data transfer is via a USB Type-C cable.
