RIL, Hindalco, L&T pay higher adv tax on YoY basis

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) has shelled out Rs 1,306-crore as advance tax in Q2 FY 11 as against Rs 1,157-crore in the year-ago period, indicating that it is steaming ahead.

Aditya Birla group company, Hindalco's pay-out as advance tax has doubled to Rs 140-crore from the Rs 70-crore a year ago, an Income Tax source said. Blue-chip Tata group's steel venture, Tata Steel, has contributed Rs 500-crore to the nation's tax kitty this quarter as compared to Rs 400-crore last year in the same quarter.

L&T's pay-out has also increased to Rs 280-crore from Rs 210-crore in the year-ago period, the source said. Apart from these biggies, a few other companies which have seen their advance tax pay-outs swell are Zee Entertainment at Rs 60-crore as against the year-ago's Rs 32- crore and consumer durables firm Videocon, which has seen its pay-out rise to Rs 35-crore from the Rs 30-crore of the year-ago period.

J&J and Parle Biscuits too have paid more this quarter at Rs 22-crore and Rs 12-crore respectively as against Rs 18- crore and Rs 9-crore, respectively, a year-ago. A few majors have seen a surprising decline in their pay-outs.

Tata Power has paid less at Rs 60-crore as against the year-ago's Rs 75-crore while Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCF) has seen a decline from Rs 33-crore same period last year to Rs 19-crore this quarter. Pharma major, Lupin, has also paid less at Rs 45-crore this quarter as against Rs 50-crore in the same period last fiscal.
