Central team to assess rain damage in DK, Udupi

An inter-ministerial team will visit rain-affected areas in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Three-member senior officials from the Central government will visit the rain-, flood- and landslides-affected areas in the two coastal districts.

Two teams have arrived in Karnataka. The first team, comprising Ministry of Home Affairs Joint Secretary (Foreigners' Division) Anil Malik, Central Water Commission Superintending Engineer Jitendra Panwar, and Directorate of Oil Seed Development Joint Director Dr Ponnuswamy will visit Kodagu district on Tuesday and Wednesday while the second team comprising Bhartendu Kumar Singh, deputy secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance; Manik Chandra Pandir, deputy secretary, Ministry of Rural Development and Sadanand Babu, regional officer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, will visit Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district.

The officials from Agriculture, Horticulture and Public Works Department will accompany the team. Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil is likely to submit a comprehensive report on the loss of properties due to rain and flood.

The Central team will first visit Udupi and then proceed to Adyapadi and Bajpe villages on the outskirts of Mangaluru. The team will collect information on the impact of heavy rain. It will collect information on crop loss by visiting by affected farmland.

On September 13, the team will visit the bridge that collapsed at Moolarapatna in Bantwal taluk. The loss of crops at Vittalapadnuru, Kaniyooru, Kallaje and Subrahmanya. The team will inspect a few fruit rot disease-affected arecanut plantations.

The team will also inspect landslide affected Shiradi Ghat before proceeding to Hassan.
