The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters in the City burst into jubilation following the party’s win in the Delhi Assembly elections on Tuesday.

The party had made arrangements for live screening of TV channels at its headquarters on Andrew Road.

Celebrations began when the initial trends started trickling in. By 11 am, the party’s symbol broom and its signature cap were all over the area. People from different strata of society thronged the party headquarters and exchanged sweets.

In the evening, the party leaders took out a victory march from their headquarters through Richmond Road, Residency Road, Garuda Mall. The procession ended at the party headquarters.

The success of the Kejriwal-led party has caused a slight discomfiture among the major parties, as AAP has hinted that it will contest the elections to BBMP.

“Karnataka is the third major donor to AAP’s crowd-sourcing,” said a party spokesperson.
Reactions

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah welcomed the AAP victory over the BJP and admitted that it was a major setback to the Congress.

“It was expected that AAP will come to power, but not with such a mandate. With the prime objective of defeating the BJP, the Congress’ traditional votes have gone to AAP. The Modi magic did not work,” he said.

Siddaramaiah said that though the BJP was humiliated in the elections, it cannot be considered as a referendum against the Modi government.

JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda said that AAP’s victory heralds the regional parties coming back to power in the country. “The era of the two national parties fighting each other in states has ended,” he said.

Jagadish Shettar, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, said that the performance of the BJP was far better than the Congress which has scored zero. The BJP might have lost, but its vote share had almost remained intact, he said.
