Namma Metro: Purple Line services hit due to glitch

Metro sources said the signalling system did not work for a brief period of 10 to 15 minutes.

A glitch in Namma Metro's signalling system affected operations near the Indiranagar station on Monday, leading to the slow movement of trains and cancellation of six round trips between Baiyappanahalli and Mysuru Road (Purple Line).

In a release, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited said the problem occurred at 9.45 am when power supply to the signalling system failed. Trains were run on restricted speeds between MG Road and Swami Vivekananda Road.

"This caused delays from 5 to 15 minutes on the Purple Line. Normal train services were restored at 11 am," BMRCL chief public relations officer B L Yashavanth Chavan said.

The Purple Line accounts for a majority of BMRCL's daily ridership, which has crossed 4 lakh after the introduction of the six-car trains. The peak hour traffic on the Purple Line crosses 19,000 passengers compared with the Green Line's 10,000.

BMRCL is scheduled to take up repair work on a pillar near the Indiranagar station, which will shut metro operations between MG Road and Indiranagar stations from 8 pm on Friday to Sunday midnight. Train operations will be restored on Monday.
