Ravi Kiran, a resident of Laggere, died in the accident in what turned out to be a tragic irony. He was accompanying his friend Gangadhar who had been taking his son, Sumanth, to the KC General Hospital. Sumanth’s health had suddenly worsened that night.

Ravi Kiran booked the cab and sat next to the driver while Gangadhar, his wife Varalakshmi and Sumanth were seated were at the back.

As the cab passed through the clock signal at the Navarang Theatre junction around 3 am, a speeding KSRTC bus arriving from Haveri and bound for Majestic jumped the traffic signal and struck the cab.

Cab topples

The impact was so powerful that the cab toppled, killing Ravi Kiran instantly. Passersby rushed the cab passengers to the KC General hospital where Gangadhar, Varalakshmi, their son Sumanth and another man named Puneeth were treated. All of them are out of danger.

The jurisdictional Malleswaram traffic police have arrested the bus driver, identified as Prakash Nayak, booking him for causing accidental death due to negligent and rash driving.
