The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has extended the deadline to obtain the five per cent concession on property tax till May 30.
BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana took the decision to this effect on Wednesday, following demands from various quarters including Mayor B S Satyanarayana, Deputy Mayor Indira, Opposition leader Manjunath Raju and other senior corporators.
The tax collection was badly hit due to the Lok Sabha elections since the BBMP was the nodal agency to hold the polls and the Palike officers were engaged in poll duties. The tax collection every year during April was above Rs 200 crore mainly because the taxpayers rushed to avail themselves of five per cent concession.
This year, it remained below Rs 100 crore. Till April 25, the tax collection was hardly Rs 84 crore, which was a major loss to the financially ailing BBMP.
