Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president Sa Ra Govindu said pulling out Kannada movies to screen Telugu film Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will not be tolerated.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of a film festival of state and national award winning movies, he said that in two theatres in Tavarekere and Avalahalli, the film chamber had to intervene and ensure that Baahubali 2 was not screened.

“They were trying to pull out Rajakumara from the screens. We will not allow this,” he added. Govindu also sought to know why the budgetary announcement to cap movie ticket prices at Rs 200 was not implemented. “I had a word with the chief minister. He assured me it would be done in two days,” he added. Baahubali 2 is set to hit the screens this Friday.

No adverse impact
Clarifying that he was not against the screening of movies of other languages, Govindu said they would ensure that it had no adverse impact on Kannada movies.

The film festival organised by the Karnataka Chalachitra Academy in association with the department of information was inaugurated by Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Tuesday. The festival will be on till April 29 and three national and state award-winning Kannada movies would be screened everyday at the Chamundeshwari Studios on Millers Road.

Director Girish Kasaravalli who conceptualised the festival said the film fraternity has been requesting the department to ensure better screening and publicity for parallel movies.

Actor-turned-politician Jayamala said those who have performed well in Tulu, Kodava, Konkani and Banjara movies ought to be considered for the S R Puttanna Kanagal award and lifetime achievements.
