Sedition case against students in Bengaluru

Last Updated 25 February 2019, 07:39 IST

Post the Pulwama attack on a CRPF convoy on February 14 in which 49 jawans were martyred, registering of sedition cases has become a fashion across the country.

A brawl during a late-night party at a bar ended led to a sedition case being filed at the Puttenahalli police station in JP Nagar on Saturday morning.

Raffiq, a Zomato delivery agent, filed a case under 124A, 153 and 34 of Indian Penal Code against three students of a Bengaluru college, reported Bangalore Mirror. The complainant alleged that the students were shouting slogans of 'Pakistan Zindabad'.

The students filed a counter-complaint alleging that the Zomato delivery agent overheard their conversation on the Pulwama attack and Pakistan. He then called his companions and misled others. They registered a complaint under IPC 143, 144, 147, 148, 504, 341, 323, 324, 506 and 149.

K Annamalai, South Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), has said the sedition case is wrong and ensured that the cases will be closed after consulting the complainants, reported Bangalore Mirror.
