Truck laden with logs topples, jams Tumakuru Rd traffic

Traffic movement on the busy Tumakuru Road was disrupted for over two hours early Monday morning after a truck loaded with tree logs turned turtle.

According to the police, the incident happened near the Himalaya Drug Company when the truck was heading towards Bengaluru. The truck turned turtle after the rear wheels of the truck burst and all the loaded logs fell onto the highway blocking it.

Vehicles heading in that direction came to a standstill and the pile up went up to two kilometers, the police said. Buses ferrying passengers who commute daily to Bengaluru for work and trucks carrying essentials were also struck in the jam.

The Nelamangala traffic police rushed to the spot and with the help of an earth mover and a crane cleared the logs. They moved the truck to the side to restore traffic movement. The incessant rains on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday caused water logging at some stretches of the highway affecting traffic on the other side as well, the police added.
