A 21-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide over the alleged torture by her husband for dowry.
The deceased, Sanjana, was a resident of Akkupet in Devanahalli. She was married to Rudresh two years ago.
She consumed poison when she was alone at her house on July 14. The incident came to light after her mother visited the house in the evening. She was immediately rushed to a hospital where she died on Sunday, the police said.
Sanjana had complained about his torture to her parents when she visited them on June 20. The parents admitted her to a hospital after she showed them injuries on her leg.
About a week ago, she had told that her husband was physically assaulting her for dowry ever since their marriage, added the police.
Rudresh is absconding since Sunday, the police said.
Rudresh and Sanjan met each other when she was studying II PUC. Despite opposition from her parents, she had married him.
The Devanahalli police have registered a case and are investigating the case.
