Kaval meet: Invitation to one seer irks others

Last Updated 24 June 2009, 18:36 IST

The fact that Dayananda Swamiji of Pranidaya Sangha was the only invitee for the meeting brushing aside several other organisations and mutt heads became the cause for stir at the venue.

Protesters gathered and shouted slogans against the Minister and district administration.

Annemutt Shivananda Shivacharya, Kadur Yalanadumutt Jnana Prabhu Siddarama swamiji, Janadhvani, Farmers’ organisations, Congress party workers and many others joined hands together to protest against the invitation extended to Dayananda Swamiji, outside IMA Hall.

Annemutt Seer said that the kaval has been preserved even during the time of the kings.  Unfortunately, now in democratic set up, attempts are being made to hand over the kaval to private hands.

He said that Government should itself preserve and develop the kaval without handing over even an inch of land to private parties, mutts or organisations.

“ If at all government hands it over to any of these organisations or mutts, then it will have to face fierce protest,” he warned.

They said that even Belamagi’s sudden visit was a part of the conspiracy to hand over the kaval to Ramachandrapura mutt as it was intended initially by the CM about one year ago, when BJP came to power.

Minister intervenes

Belamagi visited the spot and spoke to the protesters and tried to convince them.  He  said that his visit was in no way connected to any conspiracy and he had only come to ascertain the area of kaval that has been encroached by people for various pruposes.
He said that Government has no plans of handing over the kaval land to any mutt.
He assured the people gathered that  on the contrary government is planning to evict the encroachments to preserve kaval land.

“Government has released a sum of Rs 10 crore for the same, he said.
