Time to enjoy the verse

Workshop
Last Updated 12 November 2010, 12:43 IST

Everyone — young and old, student and professor, teacher and pupil — can experience poetry and enjoy it in all its diversity.

The event, called Workshop and Slam, with Dr Eva Kammler, University of Bremen, Germany, will be held at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan.

There is no entry fee. The week will start with a workshop exclusively for teachers of German language from schools in and around Bangalore on November 15, at 10 am.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr Eva Kammler, German poetry expert from the Department of Education and Social Sciences at the University of Bremen.

These teachers will then transport the ideas they have learnt at the workshop and spread poetry in their schools — free verse, slam, rap, lyrics and satires and maybe even songs. The week will culminate in a grand Poetry Slam at the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan on November 19, 4 pm. onwards.

The best works will be rewarded with attractive prizes. Even though the event is mainly centred around German poetry, poems in English could also be read out at the Slam but will not be eligible for a prize.

Entries in English should be submitted by November 17 to pasch@bangalore.goethe.org, along with name and contact details.

This event is being organised under the auspices of the Schools: Partners for the
Future (PASCH) Initiative of the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of
Germany.

This programme supports the teaching and learning of German in a worldwide
network of 1,500 schools, including three in Bangalore.
