Result: Citizens will  have to pay a hefty toll to NHAI for travelling between the City and the airport.

The proposal to include one km of stretch on either side of the NH-7 starting from Sadarahalli to Trumpet Flyover was sent to the State government when Dr Subramanya was the BBMP commissioner.

Property tax

Sources said the proposal was submitted with an intention to include the stretch between the City and Trumpet Flyover to mop up more resources to the Palike.

Besides controlling the National Highway till the airport, it would have helped the BBMP to collect property tax and development charges.

Though the maintenance of the stretch would have been an additional burden on the Palike, the State government would have shared the financial burden.

According to Urban Development Department (UDD) sources no steps have been initiated on the proposal.

“The file is lying dormant”, they added. Also, the sources admit that there would be a legal hitch as many of the areas do not meet the population criterion for inclusion under the BBMP jurisdiction.
