18-yr-old gangraped in Delhi; four youths held

Last Updated 12 December 2010, 08:00 IST

The incident took place in Sultanpuri in north-west Delhi at around 10 pm last night, a senior police official said.

He said the 18-year-old girl was on her way to pick up her mother, who works in a factory, when the men, including a minor, started passing lewd remarks at her near a bus stop.

The girl protested and an argument ensued, he said adding, she "threw something" at the car which damaged an window-shield. The men then forced her into the car and allegedly gangraped her in the moving car, the official said.

A passer-by who saw the girl being abducted made a call to police which took an hour to locate the car and rescue the teenager. She has undergone a medical examination.

Three persons -- identified as Rama, Chanderpal and Manish -- were arrested and charged under relevant sections of IPC relating to gangrape and abduction, police said. The minor boy was also apprehended under the Juvenile Justice Act.

The incident comes just weeks after the abduction and rape of a 30-year-old Mizo woman in south Delhi. The BPO employee was walking towards her residence in Moti village near Dhaula Kuan in South Delhi along with one of her colleagues after being dropped by their office cab on November 24 when the incident took place. A five-member gang allegedly forced her into their vehicle, sped it off with her and took turns to rape her in the moving car.

The incident had led to a public outrage and raised questions over safety of women in the country's capital city.

Police have arrested five youths hailing from Dhaujj Village of Haryana's Mewat for the Dhaula Kuan gangrape.
