Uneasy calm prevails after polls

The zilla and taluk panchayat aspirants are waiting with their fingers crossed for January 4, the day of counting; equally curious are the voters silently musing over the fate of their candidates.

The impecunious followers of candidates, who were busy with distribution of pamphlets and goodies among voters for about a month, are either hunting for a new job or lazing around, speculating the poll outcome.

During the electioneering, they used to leave home at the break of dawn, spend the whole day campaigning door-to-door and return home at midnight. Now, the youth are found assembling in the local shops, munching churmuri and discussing the poll prospects of their leaders.

While the State leaders of several parties are busy campaigning for their candidates contesting in the second phase of the elections, the party workers, who worked with festive fervour, are now waiting for the next chance.

Some of the aspirants who were denied tickets by their parties are increasingly vociferous in 'predicting' defeat of the contestant.Even the candidates don't
exude confidence that prevailed before the polling.

Despite distributing lucres and food, they don't assert that their victory is assured. For, they feel electorate has grown more unpredictable.

Voters aware
Voters seem to be politically more aware when exercising their right to vote, though they assured their support to every leader who came to their door seeking votes, say some of the political leaders, who claim to be observing closely the change in psychology of the electorate.

They substantiate their claim, citing the coalition government existing in the State and the Centre for the last few years.
