Regulator soon for professional course fees, says Veerappa Moily

Last Updated 28 December 2010, 17:51 IST

The fees have been increased so much that those who cannot afford to pay are denied of the opportunities. There is a need to ensure that opportunities are not denied to anyone, the minister said.  He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme in Mangalore University on Tuesday.

Bill on law varsities
He said a draft bill on setting up 14 law universities in the states which had none, was ready. The bill will be placed before the Cabinet for approval at the earliest. It would be tabled in Parliament during the budget session for approval.

On the Telangana issue, Moily said the Centre would take an appropriate decision after the Justice Sri Krishna Commission submits a report.

Replying to a query on the allegations by retired Supreme Court judge Justice V R Krishna Iyer that the son of former Chief Justice of India, K G Balakrishnan, had amassed wealth, Moily said that before making any allegation, one should have the facts. Passing such a comment was an attack on the institution itself, he said.

New land acquisition law
Moily said a new land acquisition law would be placed before Parliament in the budget session. The law had been drafted keeping the interests of farmers in mind. “It will avoid all types of problems for farmers and prevent forceful land acquisition,” he said.

‘Ananth a fantastic liar’
To a query on MP Ananth Kumar naming Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the 2G spectrum scam, Moily said that Kumar was a “fantastic liar”.

“Let the truth come out. Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has written a letter to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), that he is ready to appear before the panel, which clearly shows we do not have anything to hide. By naming Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, nobody can escape from the clutches of law. We are not hiding or shielding anyone. Those who are guilty will be punished,” the minister said.
