The students were more than delighted to introduce their parents to their friends. Most students said that the Parents’ Day was similar to that of annual day in school. The prize distribution was the highlight of the evening where students, who excelled in academics and extra-curricular activities, were awarded.

Parents too got an opportunity to watch their children perform. Prizes, certificates and scholarships were given away to the students who excelled in academics. The Indian Dance Association performed a contemporary dance.  A presentation on Republic Day, compiled by the student union, was a surprise package for the parents. The Dramatics Association, that staged an English play on the theme of Family Literacy, had the audience in splits. The play was about a Gujarati family trying to keep pace with the times by learning English — which they felt was a passport to modernity.

The relevance of education for the girl child and the prejudice against it was another issue that was dealt in the play.

The play also highlighted the attitude of the patriarch, the son and daughter, the villagers and the exasperation of the English tutor.

The Kannada Association pitched in with a dance on a thought-provoking theme. The Graduation Day evoked mixed feelings of joy, happiness and sadness. The dress code was floral prints and the girls came dressed in bright colours of red, blue, orange and yellow.

They clicked pictures on the driveway and at various locations on campus. “We wish we didn’t have to leave the campus at all. It brings back such fond memories. This college made us what we are today and has given us the confidence to face the world,” said Dovita Lobo, a second year science student.

Her twin, Evita Lobo, quickly pitched in, “Every corner of the campus is special. Like the canteen which provides great food. Spending half our time on the driveway, proxy attendance... these are a few things which we will never get back.” The students say they are proud to be a Carmelite.
“The college has its advantages. The thrust on extra-curricular activities gives students ample opportunities to develop into a wholesome person,” said T Nida.

Nikita, another science student, says she and her big gang on friends would always sit on the last bench in class.

“Eating in class, texting and listening to music were just some of things we used to do. Ours was a big class of 110 students and we would never get to do these things once we get out of here,” she said. It was a day of clicking plenty of pictures and some students planned luncheons and even treated their teachers to lunch.
