Japan Habba in City on February 20

The festival aims to promote awareness and mutual understanding of Indian and Japanese cultures through cultural programmes and activities. It will also give Japanese language learners and teachers a forum to demonstrate the knowledge gained through their studies, and encourages direct interaction between local people and Japanese residing in Bangalore as well as among institutions and companies related to Japan.

The theme for Japan Habba 2011 is ‘Bloom, Blossom, Bond’ and will feature several cultural programmes including Shakuhachi (traditional bamboo flute) recital by renowned Shakuhachi player, Jumei Tokumaru and troupe, Indo-Japan Quiz, Karaoke contest, Japanese tea ceremony and a chance to wear the kimono. Other programmes include demonstrations of the Japanese paper arts of Origami, Kiri-e, and Kiri-gami; calligraphy; bonsai and Ikebana display alongside popular Indian elements such as Chittara and Mehendi.

The event, which is open to all, will also have Japanese games and a chance to taste Japanese cuisine at the specially set up food stalls. Japan Habba 2011 will be held at the Jnana Jyothi Auditorium, Central College Campus, Bangalore University, Palace Road from 10 am to 7 pm.
