“Indian para-military forces are the first line of defence. The government also accepts it. But benefits extended to defence personnel are not being extended to us,” general secretary of All India Central Para-Military Forces Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association P S Nair said.

Para-military personnel are treated as Central civilian employees and the government by the Central civil services rules, though they do the similar work done by defence personnel. The pay, perks, privileges and post retirement benefits, including pension of personnel of central para-military forces, are admissible on the lines of the Civilian Central government employees under the CCS Rules.

“We do face the enemy and its consequences just like the defence personnel do. In fact, para-military forces have witnessed the largest number of death during various operations. But still we are treated as Central government civilian employees. Why is this disparity?” he wondered.
