College students are revamping their wardrobe with clothes that suit the weather.

Agrees Parinitha, a student of fashion design at NIFT, “It is important for people to wear something comfortable to combat the dry heat and also to protect themselves from the scorching sun. So this season, clothes in loose fits and layers are very popular especially with stripes and floral designs. And to rev up the look, scarves are a big plus.”

Keeping it stylish may be the last thing on their mind, but youngsters today try to mix both fashion and comfort while choosing their wardrobe. As Amanda, a student of St Joseph’s College of Business Administration, says, ”I have done a lot of shopping of late and have chosen clothes with floral prints and animal motifs. Also sleeveless tees and camisoles with loose-fitting pants like harem pants are the best bet. And these can sometimes be worn to college too.”

Says Punya, a student of Jyothi Nivas College, “My wardrobe is basically the same throughout the year. But this time around I have added a few tank tops and halters too. I wear these with shorts and wrap-around skirts.” Adds her friend Rashmi, “During summer anybody would prefer cotton clothes. And when I have to dress casually, I go for capris and a spaghetti top.” But since they have to adhere to a particular dess code in college, they prefer to stick to cotton kurtas and sleeveless T-shirts for daily wear. Even Amanda seconds this, “We wear only kurtas and jeans to college which cannot be termed as summer wear. But we opt for something more comfortable like cotton clothes that come in light pastel colours.”

Many students experiment with their clothing without overdoing it.  ‘Keep it simple’ seems to be the mantra. Mehak, studying in CMS Jain College, says, “We wear simple tops and team it up with a fancy belt or a fancy purse so that it doesn’t look plain. For instance, we may wear a pink halter and wear a flimsy black top over it and complete the look with a pink tote and pink shoes. Also a lot of us wear formal pants which are loose fitting and in colours like beige, grey and white. Black is currently not popular because it absorbs a lot heat. And if we opt for jeans, then we wear our shirts tucked-in.”

Accessories are kept to a minimal as they cause a lot of discomfort. Says Rashmi, “I don’t accessorise much. So you’ll find me with a pair of studs and a bracelet or two on my hand and nothing more than this.”

But a must-have accessory every person vouches for during summers is glares in different shades and sizes and umbrellas. Says Punya, “You can never manage without a pair of sun-glasses and an umbrella.”
