Nigerian held for drug peddling

Last Updated 10 April 2011, 19:18 IST

Martin En Due (31), a native of Lagos, Nigeria, was picked by CCB’s narcotics squad when he was reportedly peddling cocaine on Ayyappa Swamy Temple Road, Subbayyanapalya near Banaswadi on Saturday. Cocaine worth Rs 7.5 lakh, Rs 2,300 cash and two mobile phones were seized from him.

The CCB police said Martin was involved in the trade since 2008, when he came to Bangalore. Incidentally, he was arrested by the police in Ashok Nagar in July 2009 on the same charges. A criminal case was also lodged against him. The suspect, however, was released on bail after three months.

In December 2010, police arrested two of Martin’s countrymen as well as a Thai woman for peddling drugs. All the three were released on bail in January 2011. Thereafter, they resumed their activities.

The CCB police believe Martin was importing the contraband via Delhi and Chennai. Also, he would change his place of stay every fortnight to dodge the police. While his visa and passport have expired, Martin claimed before a City court that he had lost them. Banaswadi police have booked a case.
