Rangayana to host 'Chinnara Mela' from tomorrow

As the tumult of annual theatre festival Bahuroopi dies down, the repertory campus is set to become abuzz with the chirpy noise of children. About 400 children will take part in the mela which would conclude on May 10.

In a special gesture, the Rangayana has accommodated 50 children belonging to pourakarmika families to take part in the camp without any fee, Halemane told reporters.

In a press conference on Wednesday, he said the summer camp, this year, would be special in many respects. The participating children will be introduced the father of nation-Mahatma Gandhi.

It would try to inculcate the principles of Gandhi in children and make them realise about simple living. Besides, the children would take part in a walk for environment’s cause, bird watching, ‘Makkala Santhe’, ‘Okkuliyata’.

The fire department and dog squad attached to the police department would present demonstrations, he said.

The 25-day camp would make children to hold a satyagraha against the use of plastic and create awareness on organic farming, growing vegetables during their field visits to nearby villages.

They would also undergo training to stage plays on Gandhi. The children will stage 10 plays based on Boluwaru Mohammed Kui’s book, “Paapu Gandhi Bapu Ada Kathe”. Rangayana artistes will direct the play, the Director said. Freedom fighter H S Doreswamy will inaugurate the camp on April 15 at Vanaranga at 5 pm.
