Panel to review 'Dum Maaro Dum'

The film is due for an April 22 release. Director of Information Menino Peres who is a member of the official committee said the state would move the Board of Film Certification if Sippy’s film shows Goa and its people in a negative light.

The film’s promoters pulled out some of its pre-release clips after the women’s commission asked the police to act against the publicity material that portrayed Goan women in a “cheap and highly defamatory manner”.

The film has already caused a stir in Goa with its provocative, titillating trailer uploaded on the net promising a celluloid cocktail of “cocaine, sex, drugs, ecstasy, mafia, rage, frenzy and death in ‘susegad’ Goa". (“Sossegado” in Portuguese, means peaceful, laid-back.)

A PIL filed by a media representative to stop the film’s release will be heard by the High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday. The petition said the film would give Goa “negative global publicity” that would damage tourism.

In one of the clips uploaded online Bipasha Basu’s character says, “Here liquor is cheap, and women are cheaper...”
