Instances of drawing money twice for the same works have come to light in the course of digging for information pertaining to irregularities, he added.

At a news conference here, he alleged that money had been sanctioned to several works sans action plan. Fake bills had been produced to claim money. This had happened in every gram panchayat in his taluk.

Interestingly, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer S T Anjankumar had released the funds without checking the government rules.

Two bills for private land
Ramaswamy charged that Anjankumar had released Rs nine lakh for the development of a place of shandy at Basavapattana under MNREGS, which belongs to private person. The rules don’t permit taking up MNREGS works on private land.

There has been a controversy since 2009 over holding the shandy on that land. The court’s verdict has been in favour of land owner and he had directed gram panchayat to shift the shandy to some other place. The owner had also written to the ZP in January. Although, the CEO was aware of the dispute why he developed that land at a cost of ` two lakh, he questioned.

In the interim report to the State Government on allegations of irregularities in MNREGS works, the CEO had confirmed irregularities in every Gram panchayat in the taluk and three officers had been suspended. Ramaswamy claimed that the irregularities may be around Rs 2.55 crore in the taluk alone. Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj should order for a detailed failing which he would intensify his stir.
