70 PhDs, 31 gold medals and 63 ranks

Of the 70 PhDs, 16 are from arts, 47 from science, 5 from commerce and two from education department. The ranks include arts—12 (9 in PG and 3 in UG), Science and Technology—32 (24 PG and 8 UG), Commerce—8 (5 PG and 3 UG), Law—4 (one PG and 3 UG), Education—3 (one PG and 2 UG) and PG diploma—4.

Yasha K, department of Kannada Mangalore University has received Dharmasthala Rathnavarma Heggade Memorial Gold Medal and six cash prizes.  Speaking to presspersons, Yasha said: “My teachers have helped a lot in my success. My mother had passed away during my second semester examination and I wanted to discontinue my studies. However, I was able to score 381 out of 500 in the second semester examination, which is highest among my all semesters. I would not have attended the examination without the support of my teachers.”

She is teaching at Rosa Misthika PU College. She has been a topper throughout her studies. She had topped her college in PUC as well as in SSLC. In fact, she had missed rank in PUC with just a few marks. She says that she wants to do PhD in subject related to Tulu after two years.  Her proud father Surendra Shetty said: “I could not give her all the facilities. With the limited facilities, she has been able to achieve success.”

Asma M of Mangalore University department of commerce has won two gold medals including Mangalagangothri Commerce Pioneers Gold Medal and Smt Lakshmi Soma Bangera Kodikanyana Memorial Gold medal. She says that she could not have achieved success without the support of her parents. “Hard work helped me in achieving success,” she added.

She hails from Someshwar Ucchil and was teaching at Kanachur Institute of Management and Science. However, she resigned as she is getting married on May 15. SDM Law College student Thinley Chukki has won two gold medals including Jayaraj Ballal Memorial Gold Medal and Dr T M A Pai Gold Medal. Dr Supriya G Shetty of department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Science has won Jindal Jubilee Gold Medal and late Saraswathi alias Uma Bai Kini Memorial Gold Medal.
