Lorry mows down wedding party; two killed, eight injured

The deceased have been identified as Bhagyamma (50), resident of Challanayakanahalli and Puttalingamma (60) of Bebi village. Jyothi, who was severely injured has been shifted to K R Hospital in Mysore for further treatment and others are being treated at the district hospital.

More than 50 people, family and friends of bridegroom Ramegowda from Challanayakanahalli had come to Bebi village  to attend the marriage of Ramegowda with Boramma of Bebi village.

It is said that a few had gone for dinner and some women were busy performing marriage rituals at a borewell nearby.  The lorry driver who was at the wheels was trying to move the vehicle forward when the mishap occurred, according to locals.

He had failed to switch on the front lights and since it was dark he failed to see the crowd and the lorry just mowed down the group killing two women under the wheels instantly.

Four persons were severely injured in thighs and legs.  The lorry driver fled from the scene immediately after the mishap.

A case has been registered at Basaralu police station and are investigating.
