Piloting the bill, Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said the national green tribunal (NGT) would dispose off cases relating to environmental protection “effectively and expeditiously”.
The NGT will look into the conservation of forests, natural resources and the enforcement of any legal right relating to environment. It will also give relief and compensation for damage to persons and property.
