Girl drowns in sump

Her mother Shanthamma was away at her relatives’ place in her native town, and her father Nataraj was at home when the incident occurred, police said. When Sushma did not return, Nataraj went in search of her and found her dead in the sump.

Rs 12 lakh lost for Rs 10

In yet another case of attention diversion, a businessman lost Rs 12 lakh at Seshadripuram Friday afternoon.

Kumar, 41, who was into real estate and owned a wine shop, had come with his family to a restaurant when a youth approached him asking him to remove his car as it caused a traffic jam.

When Kumar obliged and opened the car door, the youth drew his attention to three currency notes of Rs 10 fallen on the ground. Kumar picked them up assuming they had slipped from his pocket, but was shocked to see the notes in his pocket intact. Before he could realise he was duped, the youth had taken away a bag containing Rs 12 lakh in cash from the back seat of the car.

Student ends life

Raju, 21, a student of government nursing college attached to Victoria Hospital, allegedly hanged himself to death at his quarters opposite Prakash Cafe near the hospital in Chamarajpet on Friday, police said.

His roommates, who returned to the room at around 2 pm, found Raju hanging from a ceiling fan, said the police and added that they did not find any death note.

Govt staffer found dead

A government employee was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his house in the National Games Village on Thursday.

Srinivas, 41, from Andhra Pradesh was a stenographer with the Enforcement Directorate.

His friend, who called him several times over the phone, grew suspicious when Srinivas did not reply.  

He alerted the police who broke the door open and found Srinivas lying dead on the bed. Police surmise an overdose of sleeping pills might have caused the death.
