The couple who began dating after falling in love making the hit 2008 film, but the 26-year-old actress said it took her a while to realise Patel had strong affections for her, Daily Express reported.
"He has this typical British sense of humour, which is a funny, sexual kind of humour.
"So he would flirt with everybody on set. Not in a bad way - he'd just go up to women and say, 'Oh, you're looking very sexy today'. And they'd be really happy. Here was this boy, trying to be a man, trying to flirt with a grown-up woman. He was just a bundle of joy," she said.
Pinto said they didn't confide in each other about their feelings for some time.
"We never knew something was going on until we actually just sat down and said, 'What the hell is happening here? Is this normal?' It was our first film after all, so we didn't have a clue," she added.
