Actress Gandhimathi, 65, passes away

Gandhimathi was suffering from a prolonged illness, family sources said. The actor, who remained a spinster, is survived by two adopted sons.

Gandhimathi, hailing from Sivaganga district, has acted in over 300 Tamil films since she entered filmdom at the tender age of 15.

Known for doing both character and comedy roles, Gandhimathi has acted with all the major celluloid heroes, including  M G Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan and later with Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. Artistes from Kollywood visited her house to pay their last respects.
