Panel to probe TG Halli reservoir pollution

At a meeting here on Monday, the minister said the committee would be formed in the next two weeks.

The committee members will go on a field visit to study the course of inlet to the reservoir, inspect the source of contamination and initiate necessary action to prevent any sort of pollutants entering the reservoir.
 
The committee will have officials from the Industries department, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), deputy commissioners of Bangalore Urban and Rural districts, the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, the Panchayat and BWSSB.

Encroachment

Bangalore Deputy Commissioner M K Aiyappa said 13 acre of land on the Arkavarthi river basin has been encroached upon. Twenty four encroachments have been cleared and more will be cleared in future, he added.

The minister conducted the meeting after a section of media reported about contamination of water from TG Halli reservoir.

Even Member of Legislative Assembly N L Narendra Babu had vouched the
finding.

Water from TG Halli Reservoir is supplied to Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar,  Mahalakshmi Layout and surrounding areas. KSPCB member secretary S M Puttabuddhi and officials from the BWSSB participated in the meeting.
