In a meeting of the standing committee at the ZP auditorium on Wednesday, committee president S B Munivenkatappa said it was incorrect that the warden used violence, instead of ‘advising the student’.

Parent calls

Before the meeting, ZP member D V Harish had visited the hostel when the parent of a student called and informed him of the incident. He had found poor toilet facilities provided to the inmates.

He mentioned in the meeting that the parent had complained that Sharadamma beat the student for having gone out from the hostel to answer nature’s call.

“The parent added that the students would not be forced to go out if the hostel had provided proper toilet facilities,” said Harish.

Explanation

In response, Sharadamma said work on the hostel building was substandard. There was no proper water facility, toilet facility, et cetera. The hostel is struggling to make do with little provision, she added.

Discussion in the meeting moved further that no action had been taken on an anganwadi teacher in Teralli Hills who had been absent for the last three years.

Officers from the Women and Child Welfare Department were ordered to follow rules and dismiss staff who were absent for more than six months unofficially.

Zilla Panchayat members Mangamma Muniswamy, G K Nagaraju, Srinivas, deputy secretary Sanjappa, assistant secretary Venkataramana were present at the meeting.
