Rikshaw driver brutally stabbed

Auto drivers block road, fuelling tension in Kaikamba

Tension prevailed in the region for sometime after the auto driver was assaulted. However, the police who rushed to the spot brought the situation under control.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the injured has been identified as Ravi, residing near Gurupura Junction.  The incident occurred when he was driving his rickshaw on Kandavara road near Kaikamba.

“He was attacked using a sharp weapon. The police are patrolling in Kaikamba area to avoid any untoward incident. The doctors who are treating the injured had said that he is out of danger,” the Police Commissioner added. It was said that Ravi was a Bajrang Dal activist.

After Ravi was stabbed, rickshaw drivers forced the shop keepers in the region to shut the shops and almost every auto in the area was brought to halt.  The autorikshaw drivers had blocked Kaikamba Junction on NH-13 by parking their vehicles in the middle of the road.

Following the assurances from Police Commissioner that the culprits would be nabbed soon, the road was cleared.

It is learnt that Ravi was married recently. He had also served as the vice-president of a local auto-rickshaw union in Gurpur.
