Being one of the most prestigious institutions of technical education, there is no dearth of companies approaching MSRIT for campus interviews. Be it Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant or Samsung, all top companies want to employ the students of MSRIT and placements keep taking place in the college every now and then. The students, despite having to go through various tests and interviews, are not complaining of course.

Sneha Rao, a final year engineering student, has been placed in Schneider Electric. A student of instrumentation technology, Sneha is happy to get this opportunity. “I am extremely lucky that I got placed in my very first interview itself. There were three rounds including the written and technical round,” she says. “The interviewer was friendly and I didn’t face any problem during any of the rounds though some of the people I know had to go through stress interviews.”

She is now looking forward to starting her new job in July 2012. “I have always wanted a core job as I am not much of a software person.” There were certain things she kept in mind while appearing for the interviews. “You must be confident and have a smile on your face always. In case you don’t know the answer to a question, just be honest and tell the interviewer that you don’t know. In case of stress interviews, don’t be offended and keep your cool.”

While the engineering students are busy getting placed, how can the postgraduate students be behind. Apsara, a fifth semester student of MCA, appeared for a number of interviews before she took up the job in Cognizant Technology Solutions. “I attended the interviews of companies like Samsung, Infosys and Wipro. It was a great learning experience,” she says.

“Different companies have different rounds of interviews. For instance, Infosys focussed a bit more on the technical questions,” she adds.

Dr M Vijayadev, the head of the department of placement and training, feels this year has been great in terms of placements. “It has started off well and over 30 companies have come to the college so far. Last year, we were able to achieve this feat only by February,” he reveals. “Companies like Infosys, Accenture, Wipro, TCS and Cognizant are the major recruiters every year and recruit at least 50 to 60 per cent of our students.”

He adds, “This year, we are booked till the middle of December and will start the placement session again by the end of January once the exams are over.”
