Addressing a media conference here on Friday, Dr Ajaikumar stressed on the importance of diagnosis at an early stage for speedy recovery. He said more than 90 per cent of cancer cases detected at an early stage have more chances of recovery.

However, Dr Ajaikumar said,“Conquering the fear is more important than cancer itself. Those who can conquer fear have better chances of beating the disease.

The hospital will soon have support groups, who will share their experience with others battling the disease.”

Bangalore has the highest number of people suffering from breast cancer in the state and Mysore has a large number of cases related to cervix cancer. He said urbanisation, diet and lifestyle are the contributing factors to cancer.

Union minister for corporate affairs M Veerappa Moily would inaugurate the Intensity Modulation Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and High Dose Rate Brachy Therapy (HDR) on November 19 at 4 pm as part of BHIO’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
