The BIAL, in a press release said: “The facility is in addition to the two existing locations at the passenger terminal building and at the airline office building respectively, where police personnel are present.”

BIAL President (Operations) Hari Marar said: “Police authorities form an integral part of security, law and order and traffic arrangements at the airport, making this a welcome addition.”

BIAL’s commitment

Stating that the collaboration was a reflection of BIAL’s commitment to uphold passenger safety, he said: “Passengers can now find police help on hand, in emergencies like baggage theft and loss of travel documents.”

Bangalore Police Commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji said, “The BIA is not just a gateway to Bangalore, but also a gateway to Karnataka. Passengers travelling via this airport can now file a First Information Report (FIR) here, instead of travelling to the nearest police station located at Devanahalli, which is 12 km from the airport.”

The police help centre will operate 24 hours a day and have offices for the Deputy / Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic Inspector and Station House Officer.

Additionally, the outpost will have six workstations, a detention room and a pantry area.
